Hey guys, welcome back to Throwback Thursday, TCPB’s four week long celebration of Poptropica’s 9th birthday!
This week, the years 2010, 2011, and 2012 will be covered, the most popular time in Pop’s history. Let’s begin, shall we?
After Counterfeit Island released to everyone without an Early Access Pass on Janurary 4th, this thing officially came out…
Along with this a few months later…
Anyways, beside that, Pop got a pretty good year out of 2010. Many fun islands came like Reality TV (finally!), Mythology, Skullduggery (so hard), Steamworks, Great Pumpkin, and Cryptids.
Two mini quests were released after the success of the Hanunted House, them being Dr. Hare’s Secret Lair and that Earth Day game with pigs in it or something?
This post came out in November:
In December, a huge update released, that being Daily Pop.
And finally, before the end of the year, it was revealed that Poptropica itself was the 5th most popular search term for video games on Google.
Of course, I’m just gonna start of this section by listing all of the islands that came out cause I’m too lazy to actually discuss when exactly they came out. The islands of 2011 were…
- Wild West
- Wimpy Wonderland
- Red Dragon
- Shrink Ray
- Mystery Train
- Game Show
- Ghost Story (members only)
Along with all the islands, mini games based on most of them were released before the island themselves, to advertise their release and what not. These include DC Diner for Mystery Train, Spook Central for Ghost Story, Money Ladder for Game Show, Prepare for Impact for Red Dragon, Shrink Shot for Shrink Ray, and so on. Unfortunately, many of these games are unplayable now, but thankfully Shrink Shot and Prepare for Impact still exist in the store to this day.
And when one Creator decided to go on a world tour, he brought his Dr. Hare toy along, and this happened…
It actually seemed pretty cool, there was a map tracking where he was and everything. I hope they do someone similar to this again in the future!
Another official series that occurred was Poptropica Superstars. In it, the Creators featured Poptropicans that completed a bunch of islands and stuff like that for one week in July on their blog. In the final one, they said they would do more later, but sadly, they never did. Oh well, it was great while it lasted, you can take a look at them below!
Also, there was the Astro Knights player guide or something, I guess the Creators wanted to try making walkthroughs themselves instead of everyone reading the PHB’s guides and watching Thinknoodles.
Now the guide doesn’t even exist anymore and they ditched the whole official island walkthrough idea until the SUIs came about.
Finally, after months of promos, the epic smini quest, Legendary Swords, released on November 11th.
A legendary end to a legendary year!
Let’s just say, 2012 was a very eventful year in Poptropica. Well, island wise, that is.
Like, so many islands came out, TEN to be exact. I don’t want the 2012 section of the post to go on for forever, so I’ll just list them all right here, just like I did last section…
- Ghost Story (for everyone)
- Vampire’s Curse
- Twisted Thicket
- Poptropolis Games
- Wimpy Boardwalk
- Lunar Colony
- Super Villain (also Pop’s 5th bday celebration!)
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
- Zomberry (members only)
In between all the island craziness, some other things occurred, but not as many as ther years since Pop was so busy making islands.
The biggest of these things would have to be Poptropica Friends, which opened on May 1st. It was one of the biggest updates so far, making Poptropica an even more social game, among other things.
And when Poptropolis came out, tribes were added too.
Other than that, some more minor things occurred, such as a ton of books were released, and there were some Applebee’s Pop kid menus or something? I don’t really care about that, to be honest I don’t like that restaurant. Sorry…
Not only that, but in 2012, the game reached the milestone of 500 million Poptropicans created, wow!
Thankfully the world didn’t end on December 21st, but the Poptropolis Games starting sinking…
Well, only the first earthquakes were recorded in December, and it only actually sunk in the January of 2013, so it’s safe to say that we will have to discuss more next week.
See ya then!
By the way…
