Theory Thursdays 4/21/2016: CANCELLED

Theory Thursday CANCELLED 4-21-2016.png

It’s true. This week’s Theory is cancelled and will not be posted till next Thursday, 4/28. Tomorrow’s post, which was called “MOAR ISLAND IDEAS”, is also cancelled and will be posted on 4/29. Why? I’m REALLY sick and had a fever of 103 degrees a couple hours ago, the most sick I’ve been in YEARS. I just don’t have the strength right now to write a super long theory. Also, Poptropica Hiatus Week is cancelled since I’m not posting the next two posts till next week and the Creators DID end up releasing something- a mini-game where you can earn a pair of purple sneakers. However, Totem Curse Chapter 18 and UPIS Round 3, Week 1 will still be posted as always this weekend, as they have nothing to do with Hiatus Week (they come out every week regardless) and I hopefully will not be sick by the time that Saturday comes.

I’m really sorry about this guys, I wanted to do it, but it just didn’t work out. I’ll see you on Saturday…

The Totem Curse- Chapter 17: Starting Over

Continued From Chapter 16

A couple of days later, Binary Bard, Dr. Hare, Black Widow, and Crawfish were once again back in New Pop City. New Pop was still in bad shape after Zeus destroyed the part of the city where the N.I.S.S. was, but most of the city was the same as it had always been.

The Four of them walked around the city for a bit, looking for a place to live. It was very early in the morning, so not many people were outside, and it was still a little dark.

Crawfish: “If we ever do find somewhere to stay, how will we afford it? It’s not like we have any money. We would have been rich if I had gotten to that buried treasure first…”

Black Widow: “We could get jobs, I guess.”

Binary Bard: “But, um…what job can we get? I’ve never had a real job other than inventing things or trying to take over the universe and stuff like that. 01010111 01100101 01101100 01101100 00101100 00100000 01001001 00100000 01100100 01101001 01100100 00100000 01101000 01100001 01110110 01100101 00100000 01100001 00100000 01110000 01100001 01110010 01110100 00101101 01110100 01101001 01101101 01100101 00100000 01101010 01101111 01100010 00100000 01101111 01101110 01100011 01100101 00100000 01101001 01101110 00100000 01101000 01101001 01100111 01101000 00100000 01110011 01100011 01101000 01101111 01101111 01101100 00101100 00100000 01110111 01101000 01100101 01110010 01100101 00100000 01001001 00100000 01101101 01100001 01100100 01100101 00100000 01011111 01011111 01011111 01011111 00101100 01100010 01110101 01110100 00100000 01001001 00100000 01101111 01101110 01101100 01111001 00100000 01101000 01100001 01100100 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100101 00100000 01101010 01101111 01100010 00100000 01100110 01101111 01110010 00100000 01101111 01101110 01100101 00100000 01100100 01100001 01111001 00101110 00100000 01010100 01101000 01100101 00100000 01101110 01100101 01111000 01110100 00100000 01100100 01100001 01111001 00101100 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100101 00100000 01011111 01011111 01011111 01011111 00100000 01101000 01100001 01110000 01110000 01100101 01101110 01100101 01100100 00101110 00100000 01001001 01100110 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100001 01110100 00100000 01101000 01100001 01100100 00100000 01101110 01100101 01110110 01100101 01110010 00100000 01101000 01100001 01110000 01110000 01100101 01101110 01100101 01100100 00101100 00100000 01001001 00100000 01110111 01101111 01110101 01101100 01100100 01101110 00100111 01110100 00100000 01100010 01100101 00100000 01101000 01100101 01110010 01100101 00100000 01110010 01101001 01100111 01101000 01110100 00100000 01101110 01101111 01110111 00101100 00100000 01001001 00100000 01110111 01101111 01110101 01101100 01100100 00100000 01100010 01100101 00100000 01101001 01101110 00100000 01101101 01111001 00100000 01110010 01100101 01100001 01101100 00100000 01101000 01101111 01101101 01100101 00101110 00100000 01010111 01101000 01111001 00100000 01100100 01101001 01100100 00100000 01111001 01101111 01110101 00100000 01101000 01100001 01110110 01100101 00100000 01110100 01101111 00100000 01100100 01101111 00100000 01110100 01101000 01101001 01110011 00101100 00100000 01010110 01101001 01101111 01101100 01100101 01110100 00111111 00100000 01001110 01101111 01110111 00100000 01111001 01101111 01110101 00100111 01110010 01100101 00100000 01100111 01101111 01101110 01100101 00101110 00101110 00101110”

Dr. Hare: “None of us have. Our jobs were being villains, and we aren’t evil anymore. And please stop with the binary.”

Binary Bard: “I told you, I’m a cyborg! I can’t help it! And, by the way, maybe we should call each other by our real names since we are no longer super-villains.”

Black Widow: “Of course. I’m once again Charlotte, and you’re Mordred and Harvey and…”

Crawfish: “James. But I prefer being called my last name.”

Charlotte: “OK then, Crawfish…”

By then, the sun was starting to rise, and people were starting to come outside and enjoy this beautiful day. The ex-villains tried to walk faster, as people were starting to stare at them.

A couple hours later, all the stores opened. The four of them walked into the nearest clothing store, which had a “Help Wanted” sign hanging on the front window.

Harvey: “Hi. Me and my friends-”

Mordred: “My friends and I.”

Harvey: “Seriously, Mordred…were wondering if we could get a job here. We saw the sign outside and-”

Cashier: “It’s them! The most evil villains in Poptropica! RUN!!!”

Charlotte: “What?!?”

Everyone in the store started to run away. In less than a minute, everyone was gone except for the Four and the store owner, a man who looked strangely familiar.

Store Owner: “Thanks a lot. I just lost all my customers, and my employees, and they probably will never come back. Now my store will go bankrupt. And no, you are never getting a job here. Sorry…”

Mordred: “But-but, we aren’t evil anymore! Dr. Jupiter, I mean Zeus, made Poppy, you know, the “Hero of Poptropica” remove our, um, totems, which made us bad.”

Store Owner: “I see. I believe you. I was once a criminal myself, but not so long ago I turned my life around and started over, making the store you are standing in right now. But most people don’t understand. They still see you as these people who are pure evil for the rest of your lives, maybe even history. You have to prove them wrong.”

Charlotte: “How though? How can we prove them wrong?”

Store Owner: “I don’t know. Donate money for charity, make a band, do art, or maybe even save the world.”

Crawfish: “Thanks, but that didn’t help at all. We should be going now…”

Store Owner: “Remember, don’t get arrested.

Mordred: “We know, we know.”

Store Owner: “And…”

A siren is heard.

Store Owner: “The police are coming to get us! I DON’T WANNA GO BACK TO JAIL!!!”

Harvey: “You were in jail?”

Store Owner: “Yes! I just escaped a week ago! Ten years in jail was way to much for me! Listen, I’m not really a store owner…”

Charlotte: “WHAT?!?”

Store Owner: “I’m Dr. Bill Nye, and we have to get out of here NOW!!!”

“Oh, come on! Not this again!”
OK, I’ll start the post now…
Ever since Poptropica was born in 2007, many things have changed. But, not everything. One of these things that has never changed is Poptropica’s age range. What I mean by that is the age you must choose from when making a Poptropican. It has always been 6 to 15. However, it’s 2016 now, and things have changed, mainly the transition from education to story explained in yesterday’s post. With islands having deeper plots and long-time players growing up, should Poptropica be re-rated?
Yes, it should. First of all, many people who want to play don’t even have their age listed. They have to lie about their age just to play the game. Well, at least for the online Poptropica. On the mobile app, the age-range at first is only 6 to 13, but there is an option to type in your own age, which is great for all of you older players out there. I’m only 12 1/2, so yeah.
But, that isn’t the biggest problem with Poptropica’s outdated rating. Back when the only islands were Early Poptropica and Shark Tooth, this made sense. But the islands nowadays have deeper plots that could leave some of the younger kids confused or even scared. Think about this: can you imagine a 6-year old playing islands like Survival? Survival Island’s villain is a MURDER!!! Kinda messed up if you think about it.
In conclusion, I think Poptropica’s age rating should be changed to everyone 8 and up. This way, younger kids won’t get scared and confused with the newer islands and having no limit to how old could introduce more players to the game, growing the community.
What do you think? Do you agree? Or do you think that the age rating should stay the same? Leave your comments below.
See you tomorrow…*checks Creators’ Blog…* WAIT DON’T GO YET!

The Creators just had to release a post on their blog during HIATUS WEEK. Since I’m not doing any news posts this week, go ahead and read it for yourself: http://blog.poptropica.com/2016/04/is-it-shoes.html

So now it looks like our barefoot Poptropicans are getting SHOES. Well, we’ll just have to wait and see, I guess…

Discussion: How Educational Is Poptropica?

Well, it’s Monday, so that means it’s the first day of the…

cooltext177764382103375

Now, before we begin, I want to apologize about yesterday’s post. I was just so mad about what is happening with Pop right now, and I took it a little too far with the post being in all-caps and stuff. Also, after reading your comments, I realized that the Creators are probably stressed-out and the community needs to calm down. Anyways, a post like that will never happen again…unless they make a Mystery of the Map movie with Jorge having red hair. Or if Poptropica is bought by Disney and turned into Club Penguin 2.0. Or if…

“TC! Just start the post already! We don’t have all day!”

OK, fine…

So, if you don’t already know, Poptropica is technically an educational game for children kids ages 6-15. (I actually don’t agree with that age range, I’ll explain more in tomorrow’s post.) In the early days of Poptropica, from about 2007 to 2011-ish, this whole “educational” thing was kinda true, but as for the newer islands, ehhh, not really. And even the so-called “educational” islands aren’t very educational at all. So, is Poptropica really an educational game?

To start off, here is my list of islands that I think are somewhat educational:

  • Early Poptropica (inside Pop Art Museum)
  • Shark Tooth (inside Shark Museum)
  • Time Tangled
  • Counterfeit (what’s up with all these museums)
  • Mythology
  • Skullduggery
  • Cryptids
  • Wild West
  • Red Dragon
  • Mystery Train
  • Twisted Thicket (not sure ’bout this one)

And these ones are also kinda educational, I guess…

  • Lunar Colony
  • Back Lot
  • Virus Hunter
  • Mocktropica

You notice how so many “educational” islands were released in 2011, then after that they just stopped? Well, I think this is when Poptropica decided to to focus more on story then education. Don’t get me wrong, some of those islands listed above, like Mythology, Red Dragon, and Mystery Train, have some of the best plotlines, just with some learning sprinkled in.

The thing is, Poptropica isn’t throwing facts right in your face like most “educational” games, yet at the same time you do learn a little. I personally hate educational games, but I love Poptropica because it doesn’t seem like an educational game. When I first started playing, I had no idea. And now that the new islands aren’t actually “educational” at all, I’m actually a little happy. Well, I’m not sure if learning how to to escape prison or survive in the wild counts or not, whatever.

However, the thing that every island has is problem-solving. I think people tend to mistake that for being educational, but that’s actually common in games that aren’t meant to be educational at all.

And then there’s Our Discovery Island. Now that’s an educational game, I tell ya.

In conclusion, I think Poptropica was once educational but is not anymore. In the end, educational or not, Poptropica will always be an amazing game. And just think, you can pretend that Pop is super educational to get your teacher to let you play it in school!

So, what do you think? Leave a comment below to get the discussion going!

I’ll see you guys again tomorrow.

Tall Cactus AKA T-Cacti AKA The Emoji Queen

I CAN’T TAKE DIS ANY LONGER!!! (And Poptropica Hiatus Week)

(WARNING: This post is not like my other posts. It is basically me screaming the whole time. Just wanted to warn you.)

OK, Creators, if you are reading this, please don’t get mad at me. Instead, LISTEN to me and actually USE my advice. Thank you. Anyway, I am very mad at Poptropica right now. Why? You should know. No new islands (not including Monkey Wrench, which was a TUTORIAL) since Pelican Rock, worthless sneak peaks, NOTHIN’.

THIS IS A MESS. I HATE POP RIGHT NOW. THERE IS NO DECENT CONTENT BEING ADDED. THE THING THE CREATORS ARE PROBABLY BUSY WITH IS MAKING EVERY ISLAND SUI, AND PEOPLE HATE SUIS! NICE JOB. WHEN THAT HAPPENS, IF IT HAPPENS, I’M SURE THAT COUNTLESS LONGTIME PLAYERS WILL QUIT. AND ANY NEW PLAYERS WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT POPTROPICA USED TO BE LIKE. 😡

THE CREATORS ARE LITERALLY DOING THIS NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE MAD AT THEM ABOUT IT. THEY JUST DON’T CARE. THE ONLY THING THE CREATORS CARE ABOUT IS OFFICIAL CONTENT THAT THEY MAKE. THEY IGNORE ALL FAN FICTIONS, ETC. THEY EVEN HAVE NO INTEREST IN ORB LEGEND OF ALL THINGS! THEY ARE JUST JEALOUS THAT THE COMMUNITY IS MAKING BETTER CONTENT THEN THEY DO. JUST ADMIT IT, CREATORS.

OH, REMEMBER THAT POST I MADE EXACTLY THREE MONTHS AGO TODAY, ABOUT MY PREDICTIONS FOR 2016?!? WELL, SO FAR IT HAS BEEN TOTALLY WRONG. YOU GO, CREATORS. YOU NEVER EVEN FINISHED SKYDOCK!!!

OH, AND CREATORS, YOUR PLANS ARE NO LONGER A SECRET. GLITCHERS ON THE PHB HAVE FIGURED OUT HOW TO GET IN YOUR DEV CONSOLE. SO, STOP LYING TO US.

IT ALSO SEEMS LIKE THE CREATORS ARE OBSESSED WITH MYSTERY OF THE MAP. WELL, I HATED IT. YEAH. SO CAN’T THEY JUST SHUT UP ABOUT IT?!? WHO CARES IF IT’S A BESTSELLER?!? THAT ISN’T GOING TO LAST MUCH LONGER. THAT ENTIRE BOOK WAS A LIE. THEY SAID IT WAS GOING TO REVEAL THE ORIGIN OF POPTROPICA. DID IT? NO! JUST…UGH.

THOSE CREATORS BETTER LIVE UP TO THERE NAME AND ACTUALLY CREATE SOMETHING DECENT. WE BLOGGERS BARLEY EVER HAVE ANY NEWS TO POST ABOUT, AND WHEN WE DO, IT’S JUST SOMETHING LIKE THAT TERRIBLE WIMPY KID AD THAT MAKES US ALL CRINGE.

I swear, I will NOT be logging into my Poptropica account until something new and exciting is released. In fact, if it stays like this for the next few months, I could even quit for a while.

Congrats to everyone who survived that rant. Here’s your reward-

cooltext177764382103375.png

So, from Monday the 18th to Sunday the 24th, there will be fresh, new content everyday, because hopefully the next week the Poptropica Hiatus will end, since in a PHB comment the Creators said they could reveal some stuff at the end of the month.

Here’s what to look forward to:
